1. A modular stretcher frame is joined with a tongue-and-groove connection and tightened with wedges to stretch the canvas if it sags.
Since the canvas is not always stretched perfectly symmetrically, its tension may vary with changes in humidity — this causes waves to appear in the corners of paintings.
2. We use only solid hardwood — no glued or spliced MDF or particleboard pieces.
3. A raised edge (lip) on the stretcher frame is essential.
It prevents the canvas from touching the front face of the bars, so the fabric doesn’t stick and tension doesn’t shift.
It also ensures the internal edges don’t bulge under the paint layer.
The lip is rounded to prevent the canvas from fraying or wearing out.
4. Always ask about the cross-section of the bars when comparing prices.
